About the project

The Canadian Literary Map is a passion project and a love letter to Canada through its books and stories. It is a growing collection of titles set across the country, organised by province and genre, so you can wander through Canada and discover voices you might not have come across yet. The collection is regularly updated and keeps growing thanks to readers who suggest books along the way.

How it all started

The idea for the map grew out of a passion for exploration. In 2023, while wandering the streets of Chinatown in Victoria, BC, I came across a poster explaining that a door I was standing in front of was a portal for time travel in a popular novel. Like the street had just revealed a hidden side of itself. I started wondering how many other places I had walked past without knowing they were living inside a book. That sparked the curiosity that led me to building this project. The novel was White Jade Tiger by Julie Lawson, and yes, it's on the map.
